Loreley Villamide-Herrera provides operational, management, and programmatic oversight across two divisions at the Population Council. In the Corporate Finance & Administration division, she leads business process design and implementation of the Council’s enterprise research planning (ERP) software solution.

​At the Center for Biomedical Research, Villamide-Herrera provides operational oversight, quality assurance, communications, strategic planning, partnership management, and risk management for the MATRIX (Microbicide Research and Development to Advance HIV Prevention Technology through Responsive Innovation and Excellence) project. MATRIX is a USAID-funded initiative to conduct microbicide research, product development, product introduction, and capacity-building activities.

Villamide-Herrera has worked for the Population Council since 2001. She has conducted basic research on HIV biology, focusing on dendritic cell biology and the role of the immune system in HIV infection. Before joining the Council, she was a senior research technician in the laboratory of Nobel Prize recipient Ralph M. Steinman.

Villamide-Herrera has collaborated on peer-reviewed publications and holds an MA in molecular and cellular biology from Hunter College of the City University of New York.
