First-Ever HVACS Reveals Alarming Violence Against Children in Uganda’s Refugee Settlements

The first-ever Violence Against Children Survey (VACS) in Uganda’s refugee settlements reveals high rates of emotional, physical, and sexual violence affecting children's well-being. Nearly 50% of 18-24-year-old males and females experienced at least one form of violence before age 18. Conducted from March to April 2022, the survey shows that many children's first encounter with violence occurred after arriving at the settlements. Dr. Chi-Chi Undie, Research Director of Baobab RPC, emphasized the importance of these findings, urging further action to address the violence and support vulnerable children in Uganda's refugee communities.
