Frequently Asked Questions

#HalfMyDAF is a philanthropic movement that encourages donors to give more from their donor-advised funds (DAFs) by offering dollar-for-dollar matching opportunities. In 2026, the initiative has $2.5 million in matching funds available.

If you recommend a grant of $250 or more from your DAF to the Population Council and commit to spending down at least half of your fund’s balance by October 8, 2026, your gift will be eligible for a match in #HalfMyDAF’s twice-yearly drawings. If your grant is selected, the Population Council will receive a 1:1 match of up to $5,000. One nonprofit per drawing is eligible for a matching grant of up to $25,000.

To participate, you must submit your grant confirmation and spend-down commitment directly on the #HalfMyDAF website. Please note that the Population Council cannot complete this step on your behalf. Thank you for taking this extra step to maximize your impact!
