In Knowledge Success, Council researcher Leanne Dougherty co-authors a piece discussing the growing popularity of social media, an important resource for gathering information about health and social norms.
The Council-led Breakthrough RESEARCH project is utilizing social listening and social media monitoring to look at what is being said on social media, to analyze the content and sentiment behind the messages, including misinformation, and to use that information to improve programming.
In Francophone West Africa, these innovative approaches have strengthened Merci Mon Héros, a social and mass media campaign aimed at promoting an environment conducive to young people’s access to reproductive health services across nine countries. These efforts have also led to development of practical global guidance (in English and French) for program implementers, evaluators and donors to apply social listening as a tool to inform their program investments.
