Kiran Shahreen Kaur Arora leads the Population Council’s DEI strategy globally to help ensure a work environment where staff feel a strong sense of belonging, equity and inclusion are advanced, and strength is derived from diversity. In collaboration with the Board of Trustees, senior management, and Human Resources, Arora is building on work already in progress, establishing best practices, and helping to achieve transformative change across all programs, operations, and structures. As a DEI subject matter expert, she provides technical leadership to implement an overarching strategy aligned with the Council’s direction, vision, and Agenda for Change globally and with affiliate organizations.
Arora previously served as VP of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the Ackerman Institute for the Family, as a DEI executive consultant, and as a keynote speaker on the topic. Her research and writing interests include expanding cultural diversity and social justice within organizational systems and exploring the intersections between the personal and the systemic.
Arora received her PhD in marriage and family therapy from Syracuse University in the United States, an MA in counseling from City University in Canada, and a BA in psychology from Simon Fraser University in Canada. She is licensed in marriage and family therapy in New York State.
