Nachela Chelwa serves as the onsite lead for several of the Population Council’s projects being implemented in Zambia. Chelwa provides day-to-day management oversight for project implementation. She also serves on several technical committees including the adolescent health, family planning, monitoring and evaluation, and safe abortion working groups as well as coordinating partners’ forums in Zambia. Chelwa is an experienced researcher and has worked on programs that focus on improving health outcomes for adolescents and young adults particularly addressing issues of adolescent pregnancy and child marriage, improving prevention and response efforts for children exposed to or survivors of sexual violence, integrating HIV treatment or prevention and family planning in the public health system, and embracing technology use to increase health sector efficiency.
Chelwa is a qualified monitoring and evaluation expert with experience supporting program design, monitoring, evaluation, and learning efforts for various donors. She has an in-depth understanding of the Zambia country context specifically, and the sub-Saharan region at large as well as several factors that affect the wellbeing of populations. She is passionate about improving wellbeing of women and girls and increasing male involvement in health.
Chelwa has a Master of Public Health in Population Studies obtained from the University of Zambia in 2015.
