Council staff will participate virtually in several activities at ICASA 2023. The Population Council Center for Biomedical Research will have posters displayed in the poster exhibition hall to share our work on the REACH (MTN-034) study, PrEP stigma associated with adolescent girls and young women, and a digital chatbot to assess risk and prevention amongst ciswomen and transgender men.
Biomedical HIV Prevention Forum (BHPF)
BHPF, a pre-conference of the 22nd ICASA Conference, puts HIV prevention research on the spotlight by providing a unique platform where participants gather to learn about progress made and best practices in biomedical HIV prevention research and development. BHPF pre-conference that brings together diverse stakeholders, HIV prevention advocates, civil society representatives, researchers, government officials, and frontline providers.
Coordinated by Africa free of New HIV infections (AfNHi) an African regional advocacy network dedicated to advancing, advocacy, policy, regulatory, community engagement and communications efforts that help accelerate biomedical HIV prevention research in Africa. IPM South Africa has been BHPF partner having contributed financially of the pre-conference. This year’s BHPF pre-conference Sinazo Pato, Community Engagement & Partnership Manager will be co-moderating the proceedings. AVAC: Shaping the future of choice in prevention: Gearing up for the rollout of the Dual Prevention Pill, the newest MPT in the toolbox
Offering choice in products and programs is paramount to improving SRH and ultimately ending the HIV epidemic, as end users have diverse, dynamic preferences and needs that cannot be addressed by a single intervention. Expanding the toolbox of biomedical prevention options by bringing multipurpose prevention technologies (MPTs) to market will broaden choice and help to integrate PrEP within broader SRH programs and services. As the next MPT on the horizon, the Dual Prevention Pill (DPP) offers an additional option to address the persistent HIV epidemic and unmet need for family planning among women and girls in sub-Saharan Africa. This satellite session will share the latest learnings from the DPP Consortium, a coalition of organizations preparing for the introduction of the DPP in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Kenya.
