Zewdneh Sabe

Zewdneh Sabe is an International Research Fellow at the Population Council’s Kenya office, where he coordinates and leads research activities across East Africa. With over 15 years of experience working with research institutions, international NGOs, health ministry, and academia in Ethiopia, Australia, and the UK, Sabe has a strong background in implementation science. His expertise spans health systems strengthening, healthcare financing, maternal and neonatal health, sexual and reproductive health, adolescent and youth health, TB/HIV, and the intersections of migration, health, and climate change.
Prior to joining the Council, Sabe was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where he co-led the “Adherence Support Coalition to End TB (ASCENT)” project, a large-scale, multi-country cluster randomized controlled trial aimed at TB care through digital technologies. He also co-led the “Meneshachin” project to improve the health and safety of Ethiopian women migrating to the Middle East for domestic labor. Sabe’s previous roles include serving as an implementation research advisor at Amref Health Africa, a technical advisor at the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), and providing advisory support to Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health.
He has co-authored over 30 publications and has presented at numerous international conferences. Sabe holds a PhD in Public Health from Western Sydney University (Australia), an MPH in Pharmacology from Addis Ababa University and a BS in Pharmacy from Jimma University in Ethiopia.
