Ruth Nanjekho Wafubwa currently leads the EGER Kenya project, an initiative dedicated to mapping gender and education evidence, programs, and policies. This project aims to identify who is doing what, ascertain what strategies are effective in various contexts, and expand the intersection of needs, evidence, and practice. The goal is to direct investments to areas of greatest need and empower decision-makers with robust evidence for policy and program development. Nanjekho Wafubwa is also a principal investigator for the “Decreasing Barriers to Girls’ Education in Kenya” study under the EGER project. This research focuses on identifying and addressing the specific contextual barriers that hinder girls’ education in Kenya, seeking to use the findings to inform the contextualization of the 2024 education and training sector gender policy. Apart from the EGER project, Nanjekho Wafubwa also supports the Adolescent Girls Initiative-Kenya (AGI-K) work in Wajir County by offering support to the County Government as the county takes ownership of the project.
Nanjekho Wafubwa also plays a pivotal role in national educational policy and practice. She co-leads, alongside the Kenyan Ministry of Education, a Technical Working Group (TWG) tasked with revising the Education and Training Sector Gender Policy of 2015. This collaboration aims to ensure that gender considerations are thoroughly integrated into educational policy and practice.
Nanjekho Wafubwa holds a PhD in educational sciences from the University of Szeged, Hungary where she specialized in mathematics education and educational assessments.
