Lorna Begg

Lorna Begg is a Program Manager of the Population Council’s Center for Biomedical Research (CBR), which develops new methods of contraception, HIV prevention, and STI prevention. As Program Manager, she is responsible for coordinating communications, office operations, knowledge management, and administrative activities relating to CBR and the office of the Executive Director. She organizes events at the Center and has supervised staff and fellows. Begg launched and manages the CBR Seminar Series, a monthly lecture series featuring Council and external researchers, and a quarterly newsletter, the “Biomedical Bulletin.”

As part of her role, Begg is the Officer of the International Contraceptive Access (ICA) Foundation. The ICA Foundation was established in December 2003 and is a collaboration between Bayer AG and Population Council with an objective to provide local service-delivery organizations with the levonorgestrel releasing intrauterine system (LNG IUS) contraceptive device on a not-for-profit basis. Projects include collaborations with local not-for-profit organizations, hospitals, and global partners with a network of service delivery facilities in low- and middle-income countries. As the Officer, she manages data collection and communication with the Foundation’s 35+ projects. She presents an overview of the project to the ICA Foundation Board of Trustees at biannual meetings.

Begg received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Mary Washington and her Master of Public Health, with a Certificate in Health Policy and Practice, from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. She has published papers in BMJ Sexual & Reproductive Health, AIDS and Behavior, and PLoS Global Public Health, and has presented at several international conferences.
