The Population Council mourns the passing of Alex Gervitz who died on Sunday, May 28, 2023, aged 52. Alex courageously battled brain cancer for the past year. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
Alex touched many of us at the Council with his kindness, compassion, and strong work ethic. He was a wonderful friend and colleague to many, and a dedicated member of the Global Accounting Team for over four years. To quote his daughter, Rebecca Gervitz, “My dad is a once in a lifetime type person, and the loss feels insurmountable and incomprehensible. He touched so many lives and if you had the pleasure of knowing Alex Gervitz, I hope you know how lucky you are.”
The Council shares its deepest sympathies with the Gervitz family and loved ones in this difficult time.
