In a recent Knowledge Success post, Council researchers and research utilization specialists highlight a set of validated tools, developed by the Evidence Project, to support governments and partners to measure quality of voluntary family planning services from clients’ perspectives.
That authors underscore that “the key to understanding women’s experience is asking them,” and that despite the widely agreed importance of measuring quality of care, client perspectives are often missing from routine monitoring and studies. By monitoring quality of care from the clients’ perspective, programs can better celebrate successes, target areas for improvement, and ultimately improve uptake and continuation of voluntary contraceptive use.
The authors share a package of evidence-based tools and training materials developed by the Evidence Project—USAID’s flagship family planning implementation science project led by the Population Council – to support governments and implementing partners in measuring and monitoring Quality of Care. These materials, available in English and French, can be incorporated into routine measurement or special studies.
