The Population Council is pleased to announce that its Board of Trustees appointed Dr. Nyovani Madise as vice chair of the Board during its 158th meeting held on 27–28 June.

Nyovani joined the Board in 2018 and currently serves as chair of its Development and Engagement Committee and as a member of the Executive Committee. With deep research experience in a range of health areas and special expertise in research impact, Nyovani is currently director of research for Sustainable Development Policies and head of the Malawi office for the African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP). As vice chair, Nyovani will work closely with Darcy Bradbury, Board chair, on Board affairs and will lead special projects that leverage her skills and expertise.

“Nyovani’s skills, knowledge, and experience have already informed the Population Council’s efforts to promote learning, apply research results, and achieve impact,” said Julia Bunting, president of the Population Council. “I look forward to collaborating with her further in this new capacity and drawing on her insights and wisdom to accelerate progress toward achieving our mission and to continuing efforts to shift our center of gravity to the places where we seek to have the most impact and becoming even more globally collaborative and inclusive.”

The Population Council’s international Board comprises 17 Trustees, who bring a diversity of expertise in areas including sexual and reproductive health, biomedical research, education, climate change, communications, international law, finance, investment, and management.
