Dr. Margaret Ilomuanya, Editor-in-Chief of the Nigerian Journal of Pharmacy and a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Lagos, joined the Population Council’s Center for Biomedical Research (CBR) as the first Jeiven/CBR Biomedical Fellow.

Her research spans novel drug delivery techniques and development of topical dosage forms utilized as creams and gels for delivery of drugs in HIV microbicide development.

Dr. Ilomuanya was named one of the top 100 biomedical researchers in Africa by the U.K.’s Royal Academy of Engineering. She is among the healthcare practitioners in the region who want to build local pharmaceutical manufacturing capacity in Africa.

Today, Dr. Ilomuanya continues to collaborate with our CBR scientists to build a facility capable of manufacturing high-quality products for clinical trial participants—and potentially for the market.
