April 4, 2024 – We would like to extend our gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Harriet Birungi, Vice President of International Programs, who will be leaving us at the end of this month.
Harriet has had two incredible decades at the Council, as an important research leader and a staunch advocate for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) worldwide. In her leadership roles as Country Director in Kenya and Vice President of International Programs, Harriet has led countless impactful projects, published extensively in the field of SRHR and gender equity, and represented the Council and the communities that we serve at global policy fora.
She has also mentored numerous researchers and leaders from low- and middle-income countries, initiated our new International Fellowship Program, and been an inspiration for many people across the globe.
As a leader at the Council and in the sector, Harriet has helped bridge the work of the Council and our partners across regions and played an important role in advancing our strategic plan to achieve gender equality by ensuring sexual and reproductive health and rights and choice for all. This is the start of a new and exciting chapter for Harriet. We could not have come this far without the experience and passion for the Council’s mission that she has brought from day one.
Please join us in celebrating Harriet’s decades of achievements and wishing her well in her next steps.
