Dele Abegunde has more than 35 years of professional experience in global health economics, healthcare financing, and international public health, leading research in population health, social and behavioral change communication, health economics, and operational research projects. These projects were in leading multilateral and nonprofit organizations, including the World Health Organization, UNDP, UNICEF, John Snow Inc. Research and Training, and presently in the Population Council. Abegunde has deep technical and leadership experience in research, modeling, advanced data management and analyses, and estimating the economic impact of diseases, global costs of diseases and disease groups, primary health care in developing countries, cost-effectiveness analysis, healthcare financing in developing countries, health program implementation, and monitoring and evaluation including essential medicines and pharmaceutical policies.

Abegunde’s scope of experience spans clinical practice as a trainee surgeon in Nigeria in the eighties and population research countries such as Botswana, Cameroon, Iran, Kenya, Maldives, Nigeria, and South Sudan. Abegunde seeks to leverage his expansive experience and training in clinical medicine, public health, health economics, data science, business analytics, machine learning, and data and analytics expertise to lead innovative initiatives for national and global public health impact, including healthcare financing, especially in developing countries. He has authored and co-authored several peer-reviewed publications, technical reports such as the WHO World Health Reports, and many other WHO publications, and international conference presentations.

Abegunde holds an MSc (2000) in Health Economics from the University of York in the UK, an MBA (1990) from the University of Ilorin Nigeria, and an MBBS (1984), and a PGD in Data Science and Business Analytics from the University of Texas, Austin McCombs.
