Katherine Gill

Katherine Gill joined the Population Council in 2026. Gill is a physician and clinical researcher with expertise in HIV prevention, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), adolescent health, and expanding access to evidence-based sexual and reproductive health interventions. As a Medical Monitor, she supports the design, implementation, and oversight of international clinical research focused on HIV prevention and sexual and reproductive health.

Prior to joining the Population Council, Gill was a physician and researcher at the Desmond Tutu Health Foundation in Cape Town, South Africa, where she led a portfolio of HIV prevention, STI, and adolescent health research. She served as Principal Investigator on multiple international clinical trials and research studies, with a particular focus on biomedical HIV prevention, vaginal health, and improving access to sexual and reproductive healthcare for adolescents and young women. Gill has also contributed to the development of clinical guidelines for sexual and reproductive health in Southern Africa.

Gill received her MBChB and Master of Public Health from the University of Cape Town, and a Diploma in HIV Management from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa.
