Tony Dutson

Tony Dutson is vice president for Corporate Finance and Administration (CFO and treasurer) at the Population Council. A key strategic partner to the president, he is responsible for establishing and executing the Council’s financial and administrative vision and strategy while managing the Council’s financial resources in support of its mission. Dutson oversees and provides direction to organizational operations, including finance, international operations, grants and contracts, human resources, and information technology.

Dutson brings three decades of finance, business, and operations experience in both the private and public sectors, including 12 years supporting global development programs. He most recently worked as a consultant based in Geneva, Switzerland, advising both public UN agencies and private-sector organizations on finance, fundraising, and organizational matters. Dutson previously spent nearly 12 years at Gavi—the Vaccine Alliance, the multi-billion-dollar public/private global health partnership, with the latter 10 years as senior director, Finance, and chief accounting officer, responsible for the organization’s finance, accounting, and treasury teams.

Dutson started his career in the private sector with 15 years at Kodak in a variety of finance and business roles, followed by three years at Elizabeth Arden as vice president, Finance for International Business. In 2008, he decided to leave the private sector and join Gavi where he led a finance transformation, among other contributions.

Dutson has a strong track record of leading effective operational strategy and optimizing business processes in both the private and nonprofit sectors internationally. He has deep expertise in providing financial and administrative management for non- and for-profit organizations funded by clients including the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Dutson holds a BA (Hons) in business studies from Bournemouth University in the United Kingdom. He is a qualified accountant, certified as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (FCMA) and a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).
