The Population Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Parfait M. Eloundou-Enyegue to its Board of Trustees.

Parfait M. Eloundou-Enyegue is Professor, Global Development and Professor, Brooks School of Public Policy at Cornell University (Ithaca, New York, USA). His research addresses the related areas of the sociology of education, social change, and the demography of inequality.

Eloundou-Enyegue has taught across countries in Africa, Asia, and North America and led a large effort to advance demographic training in Francophone Africa. He has consulted with the United Nations, the World Bank, and USAID, and was recently a member of an independent group of 15 scientists nominated by the UN’s Secretary General Panel to draft the first quadrennial report of the report on Sustainable Development Goals.

Eloundou-Enyegue earned a doctorate in Demography and Sociology from the Pennsylvania State University and an advanced degree in Agricultural Economics and Development Sociology from the University of Dschang, Cameroon. He has won teaching and prestigious research awards from the Population Association of America and from the Comparative International Education Society, and received the 2020 Distinguished Alumni Award from the College of Agriculture at the Pennsylvania State University.

“Professor Eloundou-Enyegue is a world-class academic respected by both the research and policy communities,” added Dr. Thoai Ngo, Vice President of Social and Behavioral Science Research at the Population Council. “He will be an incredible advisor to the Population Council as his work on the inter-relationships between population dynamics, social change, and sustainable development closely aligns with our strategic plan.”

Eloundou-Enyegue joins 16 other Trustees on the Population Council’s international Board, who bring a diversity of expertise in areas including sexual and reproductive health, biomedical research, education, climate change, communications, international law, finance, investment, and management.
