Development policies often highlight the benefits of a demographic dividend—the prospect of socioeconomic progress when the working age population is relatively larger than other age groups. As promising as it sounds, realizing demographic dividends is easier said than done.
The African Union Development Agency—NEPAD, Government of Germany, Population Council, and UNFPA invite you to learn from experts on why investments in health, especially for young people , are critical to achieving the demographic dividend. Drawing on a diversity of experiences, speakers will highlight how resilient health systems and evidence-based interventions can boost sustainable development, advance gender equality, and empower adolescent girls and young women.

Ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages
The support and participation of stakeholders from all areas of society—including Governments, multilateral organizations, civil society sectors and the private sector—has been crucial for promoting the objectives and advancing the implementation of the ICPD Programme of Action and the 2030 Agenda. The voices and efforts of different sectors contribute to developing inclusive, rights-based policies; funding and implementing programmes; conducting the data collection, research, monitoring and evaluation needed for evidence-based policies and programmes; innovation and scaling up of new technologies; and development of approaches to reach those most in danger of being left behind.
Panelists representing a variety of stakeholders will bring their perspectives on both the achievements and the unfulfilled promises of the ICPD Programme of Action in the area of health.
