Power, Practice and Potential: Social Protection and Adolescent Girls

Girls’ economic wellbeing is critical to their overall wellbeing and safe transitions to adulthood. Social protection can turn the tide for adolescent girls by allowing families to invest in their health and education. There is particular promise in integrated social protection, such as the combination of cash transfers linked to additional services or programming. Open to the public, this event will feature a presentation of a systematic review on the impact of social protection on adolescent girls, case studies on successful cash-plus programs, and a panel discussion between government representatives, bi-laterals, multi-laterals, and researchers. The event is co-hosted by the Population Council’s GIRL Center, UNICEF, and the Cash Transfer and IPV Research Collaborative.

Girls Deliver Workshop on Sidelines of CSW68

The Girls Deliver Pre-Conference at Women Deliver 2023 generated tremendous energy and momentum for collaboration and progress for adolescent girls’ rights and wellbeing across sectors and geographies. Based on the takeaways from the pre-conference as well as ongoing conversations with Girls Deliver co-hosts, a closed workshop will be held on the sidelines of CSW68, when many of the same key partners and stakeholders from Girls Deliver will be convened in New York City, to align on a collective action-oriented agenda that will harness this momentum to drive progress for adolescent girls’ rights and wellbeing.

Advancing Effective Approaches to Empowering Adolescent Girls: From Evidence to Action – A Conversation Among Bilateral Representatives

Donors, policymakers, and program implementers increasingly recognize that multi-dimensional approaches are the most powerful way to secure adolescent girls’ wellbeing. At the same time, siloed sectors and structures, including those of ministries and their budgets, pose operational challenges to investing in and implementing these effective approaches. The Population Council’s GIRL Center is convening a closed-door meeting of government representatives for the first in a series of discussions on how we can collectively overcome these silos to shift the paradigm and commit to concrete next steps to continue moving this forward.
