Ann Gottert

Dr. Ann Gottert is a social and behavioral scientist at the Population Council with nearly 20 years of experience conducting applied research to inform products, programs, and policies to promote sexual and reproductive health globally. Gottert collaborates with cross-disciplinary teams and uses advanced quantitative and qualitative methodologies to understand individuals' health-related behaviors within diverse social contexts. She has led several studies supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief/US Agency for International Development, and Gates Foundation, and has published widely in peer-reviewed journals such as AIDS, BMJ Open, Contraception and Reproductive Medicine, Lancet HIV, Journal of the International AIDS Society, and Contraception. 

Prior to joining the Council in 2016, Gottert worked on several NIH-funded HIV prevention trials in South Africa as part of her post-doctoral training and dissertation research. She also has experience in filmmaking, co-founding a production company in Madagascar where she created films and social marketing campaigns for international organizations. 

Gottert received her PhD and MPH in health behavior from UNC-Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health, including an NIH predoctoral fellowship. She received a BA from Brown University.
