Evalin Karijo is the Associate Director, Policy, Partnerships and Engagement at the GIRL Center, an innovation hub at Population Council, which envisions a gender-equitable world where girls and boys make a healthy and safe transition into adulthood and reach their full potential. Karijo has over a decade of experience designing and implementing evidence-based programs and strategies for adolescents and women in the global south. In her role, Karijo leads global and regional policy, partnerships and engagement, using the work of the GIRL Center to grow its networks and impact. Karijo is responsible for solidifying the Center’s sphere of influence by ensuring stakeholders, in particular at global and regional levels, infuse data and evidence into programs, policies, practice, and investments with the goal of improving outcomes for adolescent girls.
Prior to the Council, Karijo served in leadership roles including Director of Youth and Adolescent Hub (Global) at Amref Health Africa and Founding Project Director of Y-ACT, an Africa regional policy advocacy initiative for youth. Her work has focused on investing in the health outcomes of the rising generation. Karijo recently published The Courage to LEAD Young: A Memoir, where she writes about her professional journey in the global public health industry. She was recognized in Management Africa Magazine as the ‘Top Woman’ feature and received the #Top35Under35 Kenya award in 2020.
Karijo received her Master’s degree in international public health from the University of Liverpool and a Global Executive MBA in health headership and management from United States International University-Africa. Karijo is a certified futurist from the Futurist Institute.
